Four Burnley youngsters have been called up for the Lancashire Under 13s rugby squad.

The quartet – Bram Richmond, Liam Bythell, Tom Bolton and Charley Haynes – are all students at Blessed Trinity and play each Sunday for the Holden Road club. Burnley finished 2015 with a hard-fought win away at Bury, only managing to take victory in the final 10 minutes.

In the first half, Burnley seemed like they had started their Christmas early , being slow to the breakdowns and with very little support.

A penalty to each team and a push over try from Burnley scored by James White had the locals in the lead. Then the home team scored through a good backs move.

Just before half-time the returning Gerhard Botha side stepped his defender and over he went for an unconverted try.

Half-time arrived, and even though Burnley were in the lead, the chat was about how poorly they were playing and to reduce how many penalties were being conceded.

Three changes were made, and youngsters, Matt Crowley, Dom Murphy and Chris Pickles entered the fray.

This half was much the same as the first with Bury scoring first and leading the game by a single point, with Burnley on the verge of giving the home team their first win of the season.

Then a well-taken penalty by Joe Parkinson put Burnley ahead by two points and they closed the game out via a try by Luca Angleone, converted by Parkinson.
