Black Knights returned with two gold medals from the World Kickboxing Association English Championships in North Solihull.

After a hard year of training and not competing, three juniors were in action, an all three reached their respective finals.

Ewan Hartley, in the -40kg Ring Kickboxing, had a battle in the final. The three rounds were non-stop action, with fast combinations of kicks and punches.

Ewan dominated the first two rounds, not giving his opponent a chance to rest. The third round was close as Ewan tired slightly, but he held his own and won on all judges score cards.

His sister Riona met a much taller and more experienced girl in the final. The reach disadvantage was a little to much for Riona, but she made a fight of it and battled on, only to be beat on points.

Riona was happy with her silver medal and is determined to do better in 2015.

Jameel Saddique was in the -35 division, and he made full use of the ring with good movement and ring craft.

He counter attacked with precision, and when he had his opponent in trouble, attacked with different techniquesw winning every round.

Coach Allan Clarkin said: “I am very proud of them all for having the courage to compete at this high level.”
