Burnley hosted the Les Samuels Gold Medal competition on Saturday.
This competition is played between the season’s monthly medal winners, the major competition winners and the top 64 from the order of merit.
The order of merit consists of a league table of players who have averaged the best scores during recognised competitions throughout the season.
The gold medal winners were Gary Blades, with the best gross of 68-1-67, and Nigel Holland, whose 80-20-60 was the best nett score.
The subsidiary competition was won by Paul Green (75-8-67) on a card play-off from Steve Large (84-17-67).
Shaun Makin was third, a shot further back with a 75-7-68.
Darren Whitaker was in tremendous form at the weekend at Towneley Golf Club.
The single-figure handicapper amassed an impressive tally of 44 points to come top of the field in the men’s turket shoot.
Simon Smith was runner-up on the card from Damien Pearson, both players scoring 42 points.
The previous week, the winners of the Four Man Team event were the “Dream Team” - Dean Pickard, David Drinkwater, Jim Fitton and Paul Keenan, who totalled an excellent 105 points.
“Jan’s Vets” were runners-up on 98 points - their seasoned campaigners were Jan Lundie, Derek Hall, Jack Armitage and P. Whitehead.
“Turners Plus One” were third, also with 98 - their team comprised of Gary, Steve and Jonathan Turner, along with Graham Varley.
Nearest the pin awards went to Neil Woodward and Lee Shepherd at the sixth hole, and Ian Boardman and Terry Clough at the 17th hole.
