BURNLEY College Sixth Form Centre’s Netball Academy have finished runners-up in the British Colleges’ Sport North West Plate, held at Whalley Range in Manchester.
In the group stages of the competition, the team beat Nelson and Colne College 10-1, drew 4-4 with Preston College, beat St Helens College 15-0 and Lancaster and Morecambe College 13-3.
After finishing top of the group, the Academy team lost 6-3 to Preston College in the final of the competition.
Burnley College Sixth Form Centre Programme Leader for Sport, Brad Pates said: “The Netball Academy performed exceptionally well throughout the whole competition.
“After performing better than Preston in the group stages but drawing, the team unfortunately succumbed to a 6-3 defeat in the final.
“The game could have gone either way but Preston were more clinical with their shots on goal
“ It was a great achievement by the Academy to reach the final and we hope to go one better next year.”
Sports Academy students are able to pursue their chosen sport while studying on one of the Ofsted graded outstanding academic programmes at the College’s Sixth Form Centre.
Students at the academies make full use of the high specification facilities at the Princess Way campus and also the facilities of professional clubs.
In addition to the Netball Academy, Burnley College also runs Basketball, Football and Golf academies.
