Burnley boxer Connor secures quick knockout

VICTORY: Connor 'Big-Con' Shaw
VICTORY: Connor 'Big-Con' Shaw

SANDYGATE Amateur Boxing Club ended the ABA boxing season in style at the weekend when its latest of the conveyor-belt of pugilists made their debut.

Burnley’s Connor ‘Big-Con’ Shaw (11) pitted his wits against A.Cunninghem (Tameside ABC) in a cracking bout of skill which didn’t last the distance. Straight from the opening bell Berkley Estate’s Shaw made his mark with his long reach proving fatal, keeping to the game plan and scoring shots with ease. The second round only lasted 30 seconds as Shaw’s barrage of jab, back-hand combinations hit the target every time with the man-in-the-middle having no choice but to stop the contest.

Coach Nik Tucker was impressed with young Connor’s performance: “Wow what a first time in the squared circle for ‘Big Con’ he did everything and more.”

The club would like to thank everyone for their support this season and now look forward to their very popular Annual Awards Night at Rosegrove Unity, Friday 3rd August. Local Un-beaten Pro and Sandygate old-boy Shayne ‘The Pain’ Singleton will be presenting the trophies to the young triumphs.

Past and present Sandygate Boxers are most welcome to the evening and anyone interested in taking up the noble-art can contact the club via their website www.sandygateabc.com or ringing Nik Tucker 07855505719 or Andy Howcroft 07866073353.
