Burnley Bobcats swimming club continue to train at the Manchester Aquatics 50m swimming pool thanks to the generosity of local councillors.

The swim squad, who train locally in the 25m pool at the St Peter’s Centre, also train monthly at the Aquatics Centre in a 50m pool.

Burnley Bobcats chairman Simon Holding said: “It was fantastic to receive funding from our local councillors towards our additional long course training, as this is an important part of the swimmers’ development in competitive swimming.”

Bobcats, who train eight times a week, have a membership of around 50 talented swimmers from nine years upwards under head coach Mike Robinson.

The club is run by a committee of dedicated parents, including Andrea Lensky who submitted the successful grant application.

Local councillors who approved the grant were Margaret Brindle, Liberal Democrat (Burnley Rural), Jeff Sumner Liberal Democrats (Burnley South West), Misfar Hassan Labour Party (Burnley Central East), Tony Martin Labour Party (Burnley Central West), Terry Burns Labour Party (Burnley North East), Marcus Johnstone Labour Party (Padiham and Burnley West).
