BOBCATS swimmers competed at the popular Stockport Metro Open Meet recently.

Swimmers from all over the UK were present and standards were extremely high, but the locals claimed nine first place finishes and a number of 2012 North West Regional Qualification times.

The event opened with the long distance swims, and Katie Rennolds achieved a big personal best and qualified for next year’s North West regional championships.

Then Jamie Sharpley won both the 200m backstroke and 50m backstroke. William Murray finished third in the 100m freestyle, as did Harry Pilkington in the 50m backstroke and Marsha Banks in the 50m butterfly.

Emma Fothergill and Erica Minozzi both made the final in the 100m backstroke, finishing sixth and eighth respectively, both gaining regional times.

In the 50m freestyle. Erica Minozzi was the fastest 13 year old, with Katie Rennolds third, Marsha Banks fourth, Kerry Holding fifth, Ella Sheridan sixth and Emma Fothergill 10th in their age groups.

Emma Fothergill was second in the 200m backstroke and won the 50m.

In the 100m freestyle, Erica Minnozzi won a time which was just outside her national qualifying time, and Katie Rennolds was eighth.

In the 50m butterfly Harry Pilkington finished second and Jamie Sharpley third in their age groups.

The final session saw Ella Sheridan and Katie Rennolds post very fast 400m freestyle times in taking second and third places.

Jamie swam his final backstroke event, the 100m, again winning.

The final race, the male 50m freestyle, saw Harry Pilkington win the age 10/11 race, Will Murray win the age 14 race, Jamie come seventh in the age 12 race and Ben Nutter gain fourth in the 17 year old race.
