Victories at both the Lancashire Championships and Lancashire Schools 400m have seen him cement his place as the areas leading one lap runner in his age group.

A personal best time of 50.8 seconds means Leon has attained a grade one UK athletics standard and ranks him as one of the most talented runners in the country.

These performances haven’t gone unnoticed as Leon has received the news that he has been selected to wear the coveted Lancashire schools vest at the National Championships at Gateshead this weekend.

The cost of attending the event for athletes can run into hundreds of pounds and with this in mind Unity College have made a contribution towards the overnight accommodation.

Burnley Athletic Club have also donated money towards the Lancashire vest and tracksuit.

Burnley AC is hosting its annual under 11s open meeting at the Barden track on Sunday.
