Nine young swimmers from Burnley Bobcats competed at the Liverpool Splash ‘n’ Dash 50m sprint gala on Valentine’s Day.

The event was hosted by Liverpool Swimming Club at the Aquatics Centre, under assistant coach Craig Lord, while older squad members jetted off to compete at the Swim Ulster competition in Northern Ireland with head coach Noel Horton.

The nine swimmers, ranging in age from nine to 13 years, took part individually in four events – the 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Lucy Turner, aged 10, won a silver medal in the 50 backstroke, and all swimmers achieved personal bests, placing themselves onto the rankings for their age category.

The swimmers taking part were 13-year-old Dakota Ravetali, 11-year-olds Jamie Clayton and Georgia Singleton, 10-year-olds Lucy Turner, Alexander Sturrock and Amber Stobbs and nine-year-old swimmers Sianna Smith, Annie Geoghean and Alexander Eagles.

Assistant coach Craig Lord was delighted with the group: “This was an excellent gala for our young swimmers to compete in.

“Some were competing for the first time in a 50m pool, and they all performed exceptionally well, with some good personal best times.”
