BURNLEY Bobcats are alive and kicking!
The elite swimming squad have swum under the radar over the last few years, but are still very much at the forefront of the sport, under new head coach Michael Robinson.
The club was formed over 30 years ago by Alan Moorhouse, who sadly passed away in 2007.
Then, the general feeling was that the squad would fold without his input, but the strong will of parents and swimmers kept his legacy going.
A new committee was formed, and the club had it’s first session of the new era in September 2007.
Robinson - who swam nationally - is now at the helm of the St Peter’s-based club, who train five morning and three evenings a week, and monthly at Manchester Aquatics Centre.
The 36-strong squad boasts 16 regional swimmers, and recent achievements include an appearance at the Speedo Arena League Final, and at the Bolton Christmas Sprint meet, the club collected 12 gold medals, 14 silvers and eight bronzes.
