Sandygate ABC’s “Banger” Brett Windle beat Isle of Man’s M. Rennie at the weekend at the Boxing School of Excellence in Gorton, Manchester to reach the ABA Schoolboy’s North West Region Final.

Shuttleworth College Year 9 student Windle was not fazed by the taller 2011 North West champion, who was much fancied with a impressive 9-1 winning record

From the opening bell, Gannow’s Windle kept centre, keeping a high guard and quick feet, rolling under the jab of Rennie, giving him a headache with a cracking left hook, rear hand combo after every phase of attack, moving in and out with speed, scoring well with a big looping over- hand right.

The Sandygate boxer ended the first 4-2 up on the Olympic-style computer scoring. Rennie came out in the second with the stomach for a fight, upping his work rate although not landing clean, as Windle bobbed and weaved. The round ended 6-4 to the local lad.

The final round saw Windle secure an 8-6 score-line, and he will join his stablemates Jerome Lawton, Charlie Martin and Reece Jackson on Sunday, all hoping to join Sam Tucker and James Kimberley as ABA Northwest Schoolboy 2012 champions.
