Lowerhouse Cricket Club have snapped up South African all rounder Cobus Pienaar as professional for the 2014 Fosters Lancashire League season.
Pienaar, who represents the Titans Franchise in South Africa, is a left handed batsmen and right arm medium fast bowler.
He is also the captain of the Northerns state side.
The 28-year-old has played 62 first class games, scoring 3,183 runs at 33.50, with a best of 185. He has also taken 126 wickets at 30.20, with a best of 5-39.
Pienaar recently helped Titans to the final of the Momentum One Day Cup with some crucial runs batting at number three, and took important wickets as Titans recovered from a poor start to the campaign to reach the final against Cape Cobras. Bad weather curtailed the final and the cup was shared.
Lowerhouse Managing Director Matthew Stansfield said: “We are delighted to welcome a player of Cobus’ quality to Lowerhouse.
“We were aware Francois Haasbroek was unable to return quite early last season and we have tracked Cobus for some time. His recent form is indicative of his quality and we feel his status as a state captain and all rounder compliments us. I’ve spoken to Cobus at length and he’s looking forward to it.”
Lowerhouse would like to thank Gary Hunt at Cric-Intro for his assistance.
