Lowerhouse partnership proves vital

A devastating injury to Corey Hope and the loss of overs in the wait for an ambulance threatened to derail the Lowerhouse in the third team derby with Burnley.

But a 70 stand from Will Norcross (45 not out) and Joe Bayliff (35 not out) gave a defendable total of 148-4.

Burnley chipped away at the total but the wicket of the increasingly belligerent Matt Tomlinson changed the game.

Burnley required six off the last over but could only manage four singles off Joe Halstead.

Sadly, Hope will be out for three months with a knee injury.

In the Under 17 derby, tight bowling saw Lowerhouse to a 22-run win, after Harry Halstead hit 31 not out and Joey Stein 20.

Lowerhouse Under 15s lost out to Haslingden in a rain-rduced Lancashire League Final, despite an unbeaten 50 from Joe Halstead.

The Under 15 Sharks had no answer to Burnley’s brutal hitting to the short boundary in their 29-run defeat, but the Under 13 Panthers cantered into their cup final after beating Haslingden, as Yanis Chir took 3-10 and Josh Moodie hit 36 not out.

Lowerhouse Under 13 Lions beat Clitheroe, as did the Under 13 Tigers, while the Under 13 Cougars and Under 13 Jaguars lost out to Nelson and Accrington respectively.

And there were wins for the Under 11 Bears and Cubs, Under 9 Hornets and Bees.
