BURNLEY conntinued to show signs of improvement as they won by 34 runs at East Lancashire on Sunday - their fourth of the season.
Having won the toss, skipper Steve Brunt elected to bat, and after losing two quick wickets, were 18-2, but a solid partnership between the proffessional Imad Wasim (32) and Aidan Tate (18) who put on 55, steadied things.
But both lost their wickets to the East Lancs professional Ockert Erasmus, and Burnley stuttered at 76-4.
Chairman Michael Brown and Chris Burton took the attack to the home side in an entertaining partnership which turned the match, as their counter attacking produced a run a ball partnership of 62, with Brown scoring an entertaining 46 and Burton 30.
Late order hitting from Michael Kelly (20) and 36 extras contributed to the visitors’ competitive total of 203.
In reply, the home side started well and were 72-0 and 106-1 at drinks, despite a good opening bowling partnership from Paul Mortimer and Cole Hayman.
But it was the introduction of slow bowlers James Capstick and Wasim which really restricted the scoring.
Capstick ended with 5-52 off 17 overs and Wasim 5-69 off 19 overs, and, combined with a good fielding display and a fine display of wicket eeping by Burton - which included three stumping - gave Burnley a convincing 34-run win and well deserved 12 points.
