President’s Day held at Glen View

Burnley Club President John Hall held his first-year President’s Day at Glen View earlier this month.

In what to turned out to be a great day, teams of two men and one lady teed off in a Texas Scramble competition.

A Junior competition had kicked off the day earlier.

The main competition – a mixed Three-ball Texas Scramble, was won by Jack Corteen, Sid Harrison and Julie Clarke (67-5.5-61.6), from Martin Leach, Alistair Horrocks and Joyce Green (68-5.9-62.1), with Stuart Henderson, Michael Bentley and Audrey Hill third.

Nearest the pin on the 18th was vice captain Terry Clarke, Derek Barson and Melissa Freeman.

The 18-hole junior competition was won by Macauley Walton (90-23-67) after a card play-off with Adam Stubbs (90-23-67).

Nearest the pin on the 18th was Matthew Ruzomberka.

The nine-hole junior competition was won by James Alexander (66-27-39).

• VICE-captain at Towneley Golf Club, Jim Dugdale, won the John Smith’s Trophy with an impressive card of 75-13-62.

Former captain Anthony Hargreaves was runner-up (76-12-64), and the ever-improving Chris Turner (75-10-64) third.

Nearest the pin awards went to Andrew Miller and Ross Swift at holes six and 17 respectively.

Miller is on top form at the moment and won the Tuesday Stableford competition with a total of 40 points, with Alan Kelly runner-up a point behind.

J. Weldon won the Thursday event on the card from Daniel Haslam, with both players earning 37 points.

The inaugural Dads v Lads competition took place on Sunday, with the dads coming out on top by seven wins to two.

Paul Keenan and Danny Turner took the highest winning margin by 8+6.

All the proceeds from the successful day go to the Jed McCabe fund - the popular member is still critically ill after a tragic accident while on a golfing trip to Scarborough, falling on a staircase and landing on his head, breaking his neck and back.

A number of events will be held at the club to help raise finds to aid his recovery.
