Kim wins captain’s shootout

Last weekend was Captain’s Weekend at Burnley Golf Club, with competitions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday, past saptain Kim Stevens won the Captain’s Shootout.

Club captain Lloyd Lewis held his main Captain’s Day Prize over 18 holes on Saturday, with Danny Heys winning with a 77-15-62 from Seamus Alexander (75-11-64) and Phil Moore (88-20-68).

Best gross was Andrew Riley’s 69.

For the over 60s, Alan Green’s nett 70 won the prize.

Nearest the pin on the 18th hole was Gary Blades.

Sunday saw a three-person team competition held and the winners were Alan Green, Brian Pollard and Duncan Ryan with 81 points.

Second were Terry Clarke, Julie Clarke and Terry Walne with 78 points.

• AT Towneley, Jeff Wilkinson took the spoils in this weekend’s Moorhouse Trophy.

He carded a superb 80-16-64 to take top spot in the competition, with Cliviger’s Steve Horrocks finishing runner-up with 79-14-65, and the evergreen Jimmy Robertshank was in third with 80-14-66, with Gary Turner taking the lowest gross.

Nearest the pin winners at holes six and 17 were Wilkinson and Chris Clough respectively.

Neil Jackson and Andy Trickett claimed the prizes the previous week.

The experienced pairing of Chris Clough and David Lancaster won the final of the foursomes competition in an entertaining match against father and son duo Paul and Daniel Haslam.

Despite the setback, 15-year-old Daniel was back on track to win the Tuesday Stableford with an excellent 41 points, with Ian Carruthers being the runner-up, a point adrift.

The “Dundee Dynamo” John Gordon Miller had his best-ever score at the club, and his tally of 44 points won him the Thursday competition, with Paul Haslam’s 41 points earning him runners-up spot.
