THE Mentors of Excellence in Football Scheme is celebrating a success story from their Burnley centre after two players earned youth contracts with Stalybridge Celtic.

Attacking midfielders Mehran Khan and Scot Cawtherly have both won deals with the Blue Square Conference club having been supported by MEFS - set up by Majid Shafiq in April to developing young players over 16 to progress to higher levels of football.

Shafiq said: “Both Mehran and Scot have loads of ability and now can fulfil their potential amongst peer professionals to make their dreams become reality.”

Shafiq is a management consultant by trade, and a qualified sport scientist and coach, and heads the Education department at Stalybridge.

He hopes there will be many more players to follow as MEFS grows around East Lancashire, with satellite centres planned to open in Burnley for players ranging from 14-17 years.

For any players wanting a trial at MEFS and be seen by Majid, contact him on 07886683004.
