Weather is the derby winner

THE weather was the only winner as Padiham’s scheduled Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge Trophy first round tie with local rivals Colne was called off for a second time on Tuesday night.

Torrential rain leading up to kick-off at the Arbories meant preston-based referee David Fisher had no option but to postpone the fixture, despite leaving his decision until half an hour before the match was due to start.

The Storks’ groundstaff had worked all day to get the pitch in a suitable condition to play, after Sunday’s FA Women’s Challenge Cup tie between Padiham and Preston North End Ladies had gone ahead in similar conditions, leaving the playing surface somewhat battered.

The Challenge Trophy tie will now go ahead on Tuesday, kick-off 7-45 p.m., weather permitting.

Padiham are back in North West Counties Premier Division action on Saturday, when they take on Glossop North End at the Arbories, kick-off 3 p.m.
