Padiham are held again

EQUALISER: Joe Garvin

EQUALISER: Joe Garvin

PADIHAM were held at home for the second time in five days when they drew 1-1 with AFC Blackpool at the Arbories on Wednesday night.

On a heavy pitch the Storks found themselves a goal down after 12 minutes when James Walker unleashed a 25-yard drive that crept in at the foot of the post to give the visitors an early advantage.

Dave Sherlock spurned a great opportunity to level matters in the 25th minute but he lost out on a one-on-one with Blackpool keeper Bobby Harris.

However, Steve Wilkes’s side did get the equaliser in the 38th minute when Joe Garvin’s free-kick was deflected beyond Harris via one of his own defenders to make it 1-1.

Padiham went close again three minutes from the interval when another Garvin (pictured) set-piece was superbly tipped around the post by Harris.

The second half proved to be a scrappy affair with the Fylde coast side becoming a strong physical presence, stamping themselves on the fixture with some robust challenges.

Blackpool’s Ben Waddington could have restored the away side’s lead but wasted a good opening in the 72nd minute when he worked the space but dragged his shot wide.

The closest Padiham came to snatching the points arrived eight minutes from time when Garvin cut inside before smashing the upright with a rasping effort that had Harris beaten.

Padiham travel to Winsford United tomorrow, kick-off 3 p.m.

They will be looking to avenge their only league defeat this season when Winsford scored three goals in the last eight minutes to beat the Storks 4-3 at the Arbories.

Meanwhile, Padiham Reserves take on Glossop North End Reserves at the Arbories tomorrow with kick-off at 3 p.m.
