Padiham 0, Blackburn Rovers U21s 0
Blackburn Rovers’ Barclays Under 21 League side were the visitors to Padiham’s Arbories Memorial Sports Ground on Saturday, for what turned out to be an evenly-matched pre-season warm-up fixture.
The game gave both sides managers some thing to think about ahead of the forthcoming league season, even if the spectators didn’t see any goals.
Rovers lined up with £1m player Jordan Slew and England Youth international Dean Rittenberg, while Padiham included Accrington Stanley loanee James Jenkins in their side, with pick of the bunch Rittenberg going closest to scoring in the first half with a shot on the turn that went wide, and another effort which was cleared off the goal line.
After the break Padiham went close themselves, with Dominic Craig having a goal disallowed for off-side, and Martin Parkes having a header deflected over the visitors’ crossbar.
But neither side could break the deadlock, and the game finished goal-less.
Padiham start of their Evo-Stik First Division North League fixtures on Saturday with a home game against Spennymoor Town.
Padiham FC Reserves won their opening Galaxy Lancashire Football League fixture against New Mills Reserves 2-1 at the Arbories in midweek, and travel to AFC Fylde this Thursday evening for another league fixture.
