Padiham suffer again as weather forces postponement

THE weather continued to wreak havoc at Padiham Football Club with the rain taking over from where the ice left off.

Craig Chadwick’s side had their North West Counties League Premier Division encounter against Atherton LR at the Arbories postponed, while the Storks Reserves’ fixture away at Barnoldswick Town was cancelled.

The A team’s East Lancashire Football League clash against Borrowdale United also suffered the same fate - all due to waterlogged pitches.

It was also a similar story on Sunday as Padiham FC’s under 18s and under 12s had their respective fixtures postponed.

In fact, only Padiham Ladies managed to get a game in, winning their NWC Womens’ Regional League Division One fixture at Bolton L&R 4-1.

The Storks Ladies took an early lead after the hosts scored an own goal in only the second minute, before Becky Hayton doubled the advantage five minutes before half-time.

After the break, a second half double from Danni McKillop, scoring in the 75th and 86th minute, extended Padiham’s lead to 4-0, before Bolton pulled one back in the final minute of the game.

The two sides meet again on Sunday in the league at the Thomas Whitham ground in Barden Lane, with kick-off at 2 p.m.

The Storks have no midweek fixture, but on Saturday the first XI have a tough encounter against Runcorn Town, kick-off 3 p.m. at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground.
