PADIHAM manager Craig Chadwick is looking for a positive response from his players after a “day to forget” at the weekend.
The Storks lost 2-0 to Alsager Town in what could have been a completely different game if not for a harsh sending off according to Chadwick.
“It was a very even game up until the half-hour mark when the referee sent off our centre back Kieran Fletcher. It was probably a free-kick but it was never a red card.
“They then went and scored from the resulting free-kick and we had our backs up against the wall. At half-time we decided to switch to three at the back and pack the midfield. We gave away a sloppy goal 15 minutes into the half though and we were always going to struggle then.
“It was a day to forget really. As well as the sending off, we also lost Andy Haworth and Barry Shuttleworth to injuries.”
Padiham visit AFC Liverpool on Saturday and although they currently lie second from bottom in the league, Chadwick is expecting a tough game.
“We played them at home earlier in the season when they were bottom and hadn’t won a game. They played really well and we only managed a 2-1 win. They’ve had a few good results since then as well so we know they are going to give us a real battle.
“We’ve got John Blackley back from suspension which will help us and although it will be a tough game we do know what to expect from them.”
Chadwick is looking forward to a relatively quiet Christmas period but still expects his side to produce the goods when they play.
“Because of the way Christmas falls this year it has worked out quite quiet for us. “We play Barnoldswick on Boxing Day and Silsden on January 2nd so it’s not too bad really.
“We have had a few games called off in the first half of the season so we are expecting the games to come thick and fast now. That’s when a big squad comes in handy and we’ll be looking to add a couple of players in the next couple of weeks.”
