PADIHAM will look to leapfrog Congleton Town at the Arbories tomorrow (kick-off 3 p.m.) as they look to climb into the top 10 of the North West Counties League Premier Division.
The Storks, after their 1-1 draw at Atherton LR on Saturday, currently lie 15th in the table, but a win over Congleton would take them above the visitors, who are two points better off in 13th, having played a game more.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Padiham Reserves beat the weather and recorded a 4-1 win sat home to Daisy Hill.
With the Arbories’ pitch being one of a handful of local playing surfaces fit to play on, the Storks took the opportunity to close the gap on Reserve Division leaders Ashton Athletic.
Danny Fagan gave Padiham a ninth minute lead when he headed in a Michael Taylor corner.
Owen Deakin-Pickard then played in Curtis Gallagher on 14 minutes to double the Storks’ lead with a chipped effort that gave visiting keeper Craig Holmes no chance, and on 28 minutes a through ball from Marc Beckett released Nathan Egan, whose pace and finish was too much for the visitors, putting Padiham well and truly in the driving seat at 3-0.
Egan completed the first half scoring with a second for himself and a fourth for Padiham on 40 minutes.
In the second half, Padiham eased off and on 78 minutes Craig Xuereb scored a consolation for the visitors.
The reserves travel to Glossop North End tomorrow.
Padiham A drew 3-3 in the derby with Borrowdale United.
A goal down after five minutes, Padiham were helped when the home team had a man sent off.
Borrowdale added a second before the Storks pulled one back before half-time when Cole Hayman cut a ball back into the path of Sam Anderson who finished well.
Padiham started the second half well, but it wasn’t until midway through that they levelled when Matthew Ashworth followed up a Hayman shot that had been saved to make it 2-2.
Reece Horrocks added a third for Padiham from close range before Borrowdale levelled the scores five minutes from time to make the final score 3-3.
Both Padiham Ladies’ and both Padiham youth team’s fixtures on Sunday were postponed.
