Lee Ashcroft’s first goal for Padiham, coupled with an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Sean Davis, saw the Storks throw a spanner in Lancaster City’s play-off push in a 1-1 draw at the Giant Axe Stadium on Saturday.
The 41-year-old former Preston North End striker, who went for £1.25m in transfer fees during his career, gave the away side a ninth minute lead with a header beyond Mike Hall.
However, that lead lasted just seven minutes when City full back Ryan Elderton smashed an effort past Davis from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.
After the equaliser the hosts applied the pressure and, after striking the upright, Davis kept out shots from Neil Marshall, Ryan Winder and Simon Wearing.
City spurned further openings in the second half as Garry Hunter, Marshall and Tom Kilfin were all thwarted by Davis, before Lee Dodgson blazed a penalty high and wide on the hour mark.
The Storks could’ve snatched maximum points as the fixture petered out as Mark Sharples whipped a free-kick just over the bar from the edge of the box while Ashcroft’s chip over Hall was wiped out for offside.
Padiham, who played rivals Clitheroe on Bank Holiday Monday, will now round off the season on Saturday away to Ossett Albion with kick-off at 3 p.m. Padiham Reserves entertain Barnoldswick Town at the Arbories, kick-off 3 p.m.
