Tournament success for Burnley Belverdere

Burnley Belvedere Under 14s won the Lions Clubs’ International annual football competition, sponsored by Burnley Lions Club at the JMO Sports Park, Blaguegate Playing Fields in Skelmersdale.

Ten teams from as far away as Penrith took part. In the first section, Belvedere, under manager Paul Gidley, won all their matches against Sacred Heart College (2-1), Castletown JFC (3-0), Birchwood HS Blues (3-0) and North Walkden (3-1) to reach thelast four.

Playing Burscough Juniors in the semi-final, a 1-1 draw resulted in an penalty shoot-out, with Belvedere finally winning through to the final 12-11.

The final was a tough duel with Bolton’s Ladybridge FC, finishing in a goalless draw after extra time, but once again Belvedere won through on penalties 3-2 to claim the trophy.
