What a year it has been for the Shuttleworth College Year 9 boys’ football team.
After an unfortunate penalty shoot-out loss to the eventual Lancashire Cup finalists at the end of last year, the boys have picked themselves up and remain the team to beat in Burnley.
The boys have not lost one match in any format this year, ending it in style with a 5-0 win over Blessed Trinity in the Burnley Schools’ Cup final at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form Centre.
As well as remaining unbeaten in the league this year, the Shuttleworth College A team also won the Burnley Schools’ 7-a-side tournament without conceding a goal - with the B team ending up in third place on the night too.
As for county and national competitions, this season the boys had a disappointing result in the earlier stages of the Lancashire Cup and ended up losing 2-1 in the English Schools Cup to very tough opposition from Manchester, who went on to reach the last 32 the country - which goes to show that when the boys are at full strength they are a match for anyone!
Overall it has been a great year and manager Mr Campbell has been delighted with the team’s progress.
The following Year 9 boys have represented Shuttleworth College this year: Declan McCluskey (captain), Brad Ditch, Jack Halstead, Jack Biliington-Calvert, Dale Benson, Josh Hetherington, Cameron Thornton, Liam Gidley, Levi Ostle, Lennon Steen, Brad Woods, Harry Kerrigan, Mason Hughes, Bailey Bowden, Sean Charnley, Leyton Crook, George Wilson, Arron Nicholson and Drew Sandiford.
