Shuttleworth College’s Year Seven girls football team were goal-den girls after finishing runners-up in the Lancashire Schools finals.
The Padiham school were representing Burnley after winning the town competition comprehensively.
They Shuttleworth team travelled to Blackpool for the county finals and came up against St Cecilia’s of Preston, Park High School of Colne and Montgomery High School in Blackpool.
An unfortunate deflection meant Shuttleworth lost the opening game 1-0 to a strong St Celilia’s side.
But they dominated the next game against hosts Montgomery High School, although it needed a late winner from Rebecca Campbell to secure the win.
Their final game was a local derby against Park High School and Grace Turner scored a hat-trick, followed up by goals from Libby Bleazard and Rebecca Campbell to seal the win in style.
“Unfortunately the loss in the first game meant the girls finished runners-up to St Cecilia’s,” said Head of PE Andrew Stubbs. The girls were impressive in their first year together and there is plenty to build on.”
