PADIHAM’S youth team ended North West Youth Alliance Division One side AFC Fylde’s unbeaten start to the season with victory in the FA Youth Cup at Kellamergh Park on Monday night.
The young Storks got off to the best possible start, taking a second-minute lead through Ryan Black.
Black then doubled Padiham’s lead when he turned in a low, hard cross from Joel Melia midway through the second half.
Three minutes from time, Melia himself made sure of Padiham’s progress when he smashed the ball past keeper Adam Barnish after a great run.
Padiham now face Skelmersdale United or AFC Blackpool at the Arbories on a date to be decided.
The youth team return to East Lancashire Alliance football on Sunday, with a fixture at Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s.
Meanwhile, Padiham’s first team had no midweek fixture, but are at home again tomorrow when Winsford United visit the Arbories, kick-off at 3pm., with Steve Wilkes’ men looking to maintain their unbeaten start in the NWC Premier Division, having won five and drawn three of their opening eight fixtures.
Padiham Reserves have no fixture tomorrow.
Wednesday night’s home game with Barnoldswick Town Reserves at the Arbories was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
FINAL SCORE: AFC Fylde Youth 0, Padiham Youth 3
