Padiham Under 13s have new team kits thanks to their local supermarket.
The youngsters made a special visit to the new Padiham Tesco store, on Wyre Street, to receive a £500 sponsorship cheque from Store Manager Bill Davidson.
With no main sponsor in place for the current football season, Padiham FC’s management committee began to look for individual team sponsors to help with the club’s running costs.
And the Under 13s have been sponsored by the new Tesco Padiham store.
The club’s youngest team was formed last season, and under the management of coaches Matt Ostle and Anthony McCluskey have entered the East Lancashire Alliance Youth League.
The side are currently top of the East Lancashire Alliance Under 13 Yellow Youth League and have won seven of their eight league fixtures.
Padiham secretary and trustee Alan Smith said: “On behalf of all Padiham FC members I’d like to thank Tesco for sponsoring the Under 13s football team.
“It is difficult to find the funding to run the number of teams the club has, so for Tesco Padiham to get behind sport in the town is very much appreciated and has given all the young players in the team a massive boost.”
As a football fan himself, Store Manager Bill was more than happy to present the cheque to the young players.
He said: “It was great meeting the players and coaches.
“I’m really happy we’re able to support the club as they are a great asset to our local community.
“The kits look brilliant; I’d like to wish the team luck in their upcoming games.”
