Needing to avoid defeat to guarantee survival in the North West Women’s Premier League, Burnley Ladies went one better in earning a 2-0 triumph over Northwich Vixens to end the season on a high.
The lady Clarets gained the lead midway through the first half when Charlotte Hartley surged down the right flank and struck a fierce drive that nestled in the far corner of the net.
Burnley had further chances before the interval. A curling left-foot strike from Em Forrest was tipped around the post by the keeper, and striker Kelly Dean created a chance for Jo Rohman but her shot drifted narrowly wide.
A long-range effort from star-performer Jo Holt narrowly cleared the bar.
Northwich rallied at the start of the second half, but Burnley doubled their advantage on 70 minutes when a long ball from Stephanie Meeks was collected by Jane Sexton, who lashed home.
