Burnley Miners’ welfare club have sponsored the new Burnley and District Sunday Football League’s Premiership Trophy – the Billy Ingham Memorial Trophy.

The trophy, in honour of former Claret Ingham – nicknamed the “Ginger Pele” – was handed over to league treasurer Jeff Sumner and chairman John Pilling by the Miners Welfare Club’s committee and members.

Ingham was vice president of the Miners and served the club for many years .

Speaking on behalf of the Sunday League, Pilling said: “Our league’s committee, managers and players would like to thank Burnley Miners Welfare Club for kindly sponsoring the new premiership trophy.”

And treasurer Sumner added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the league’s sponsors , Alderson & Horan funeral services, Burnley Miners welfare club, Charley Briggs, and Fixings North West for their support in the league’s 50th year in existence.”
