BURNLEY Belvedere Juniors Under 15s jet off on Monday for Spain, to step in the footsteps of some of world football’s biggest names.
The squad set off from the Spirit of Sport ready for the Mediterranean International Cup - a competition which has previously featured the likes of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba of Barcelona, Manchester United’s Anderson and Rafael da Silva, Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho, Marcelo of Real Madrid, Chelsea’s Juan Mata, AC Milan’s Bojan Krkic and Neymar of Santos.
And Belvedere could end up facing the Brazilian national side or even Barcelona!
Other clubs competing include Maccabi Haifa of Israel, Espanyol, Molde of Norway.
Belvedere - who are celebrating being accredited with Charter Standard status, will initially line-up in a group with Volcan Junior of the Ivory Coast, SCH of Japan, and CE Manresa of Spain.
Games will be played at Llagostera, Hostalric, Sils, St Feliu De Guixols and Vidreres.
The opening ceremoney is on Wednesday, with the start of the tournament to follow.
Quarter and semi-finals will be next Saturday, Afternoon: with the final on Sunday, which will be broadcast on television in Spain.
