THE first of the 2011 Moorhouse’s Golden Cue quarter-finals was played on Sunday at Ighten Leigh Social Club.

Simon Lawless beat Sean Greenall 3-1 in a very good match.

Lawless led 2-0 with runs of 40 and 30 respectively, before Greenall pulled it back to 2-1 with breaks of 40 and 26.

The fourth frame looked to be going Greenall’s way until he missed a difficult red, and Lawless stepped in and cleared the last two reds and colours to take the frame and match.

Both players received a good ovation from the well-informed and knowledgeable crowd.

The match was refereed by Neil McGovern and marked by Trevor Sutcliffe.

In the remainder of the draw, on Sunday, C. Docherty (Canteen) faces J. Southern (Green Street), before the last quarter-final tie on Tuesday, between D. Howe (Ighten Leigh) and H. Ingham (Miners).

All matches are to be played at Ighten Leigh, best of five frames, no jeans or trainers.
