Burnley College Sixth Form Centre’s Men’s Football Academy have been crowned the number one team in the North West.

The team ended their season a staggering 10 points ahead of second placed Oldham College, despite having played one game fewer than their closest rival.

The side remained unbeaten throughout the season with a record of 15 wins and two draws, ending with an incredible goal difference of +61.

Elsewhere, the Women’s Football Academy side were ranked well inside the top 10 in the North West’s combined final standings for the men and women Academy sides, with the team narrowly missing out on the title by goal difference.

The Women’s Netball Academy enjoyed similar success, finishing the campaign as runners-up in the AoC Sport Netball North West league with an outstanding record of 11 wins and just two losses.

These fantastic achievements will be inspiration to future Burnley College Sixth Form Centre students looking to become members of Burnley College’s Academy of Sport, and sets the bar high for even more success in the future.

Bradley Pates, Lecturer in Sports, Business and the Services at Burnley College, said: “Our Academy of Sport teams have enjoyed an incredible season and have been an absolute credit to Burnley College.

“We look forward to welcoming new members to our Academy of Sport teams next season and to build on this year’s achievements in the coming years.”
