But wideman Johann Berg Gudmundsson was set to see a specialist yesterday to get to the bottom of his troublesome medial knee ligament injury.

Defour played 70 minutes at the Barnfield Training Centre on Tuesday against a touring side from Edmonton, having been out since January 31st with a hamstring injury. Boss Sean Dyche said: “We’ll have to make a judgement call, 70 minutes obviously isn’t a full game but he came through clear, which is good news.

“We made a call on getting him off, he’s been out a reasonable amount of time, and it was precautionary.”

But Gudmundsson’s knee problem, sustained early in the FA Cup defeat against Lincoln City, is a worry: “Johann’s is still niggling on. We thought that would have settled down.

“It’s a medial ligament strain and just hasn’t settled down as quickly as you would expect, so we’ll get a secondary view from the specialist. We’ll take him for another check, more as a precaution.”
