Burnley defender Luke O’Neill has today joined League Two side Southend United on a one-month emergency loan.

O’Neill, 22, spent the first half of the campaign at York City, making 16 appearances for the Minstermen before ending his spell a day early in January to travel with the Clarets’ squad that lost 4-3 at Southampton in the FA Cup.

The former Mansfield and Leicester defender now joins the Shrimpers to help them with their promotion push.

Phil Brown’s side currently sit in fifth place, just two points off an automatic promotion place.
