Many pundits have envisaged that Burnley’s next cluster of games could be key to their survival hopes.

Crystal Palace, 19th after three games with a solitary point, are first up for the Clarets tomorrow at Selhurst Park, while Sunderland, West Brom and Leicester City follow.

But Clarets keeper Tom Heaton believes that a first point and clean sheet has set Burnley up well for the forthcoming challenge.

The 28-year-old, who made a vital stop to deny Robin Van Persie in the 0-0 stalemate against Manchester United, said: “It was important to get that first point on the board and there was a clean sheet to go with it.

“It settles everybody down, relieves a little bit of pressure and allows us to keep moving forward.

“I think we all knew it was going to be a tough start.

“Chelsea, United and Swansea away is a tough trio of games.

“Thankfully we’re on the back of a very good result and a great performance.

“There’s a lot of things to build on to take in to this run of games.”
