Goal ace Trippier on Burnley’s away victory at Brighton: MATCH ACTION PHOTOS

MATCHWINNER Kieran Trippier hopes his goal at Brighton has set the Clarets up nicely for the Christmas period.

The on-loan right back arrowed in a 20-yard screamer at the Amex Stadium on Saturday against the nine-men Seagulls to earn Burnley’s fourth win in five games.

And with a Yorkshire triple-header to come, at home to Doncaster Rovers and Hull City, before a trip to Leeds United, the England Under 21 cap hopes to kick on.

Burnley were on the brink of the bottom three before a 3-2 win at Hull, but have climbed to 11th - with a home loss to Portsmouth last week the only blot.

Trippier said: “It’s looking good. We needed those wins. Portsmouth was disappointing to get beat at home but we’ve got the three points to take it into Doncaster at home after Christmas.”

Turf Moor has been far from a fortress this season, with only three wins recorded - half as many as on the road.

Since Burnley won 2-0 at Reading to reach the play-off final in May 2009, the club have won 16 away games - and 11 under Eddie Howe!

Trippier feels the squad’s unity is a big factor in the turnaround in away form: “I don’t know why. It’s just the spirit around the camp.

“We stay over the night before the game and we’re all together and have a laugh and the spirit’s brilliant.

“It helps being all together the day before the game.”
