striker Wes Fletcher hit a hat-trick as Burnley Reserves hammered Morecambe on Tuesday night at Turf Moor in the Central League.

And in a further boost, Michael Duff came through 90 minutes unscathed after 11 weeks out with a knee problem.

Fletcher, back at Burnley after a loan spell with neighbours Accrington Stanley, scored two early goals before completing his treble after the break, on a night where former captain and manager Jimmy Adamson was honoured with a minute’s silence before kick-off, while the players wore black armbands.

Fletcher opened the scoring on six minutes, finishing well after good approach work from Dominc Knowles, and four minutes later he made it 2-0, profiting from the rebound after Knowles’ shot was saved by Sean Routledge.

Morecambe rarely threatened, with Duff not stretched, and the Clarets added a third just after the half hour when Adam Evans advanced down the left and crossed for Knowles, who tucked the ball inside the far corner.

While the Shrimpers improved after the break, Fletcher killed them off with his hat-trick goal with 23 minutes remaining, again on the spot to score after Evans’ shot was spilled.

Joe Jackson made a welcome return, on for Shay McCartan after recovering from a broken foot, while Archie Love replaced Evans.

Morecambe introduced a familiar face in former Claret Michael King, but Burnley added to their misery with two more goals.

Steve Hewitt created the fifth for Love, breaking into the box and delivering a neat centre, and Jackson rounded off the scoring at the death as he collected a pass from Hewitt and smashed the ball past the keeper from 16 yards.

The reserves are next in action at Wrexham on Wednesday (kick-off 2 p.m.).
