Burnley to honour our Olympic heroes

GOLD: Steven Burke

GOLD: Steven Burke

THE Clarets will have three special Olympic medal-winning spectators at Saturday’s opening day clash with Bolton at Turf Moor.

Colne cyclist Steven Burke, who clinched gold in the team pursuit, Clitheroe’s modern pentathlon silver medal winner Samantha Murray and the Ribble Valley’s bronze kayak sprint medallist Jon Schofield will all be guests of honour for the eagerly-awaited clash. Joining the trio will be Burnley’s own 2012 Olympic hammer-throwing ace Sophie Hitchon who smashed the British record on the way to a place in the final.

The four Olympic heroes will be paraded on the Turf Moor pitch before the crunch match which kicks off at 3 p.m. and club officials are hoping that fans will take their seats early to show their appreciation of the quartet’s achievements at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
