Burnley FC Ladies’ first team were without a game at the weekend, but the development team maintained their 100% record against a strong Lancaster City Ladies.
The Clarets made numerous early attempts on the Lancaster goal but were lacking their usual clinical finishing.
Lancaster did counter on a few occasions, but solid defending by Hannah Till prevented any real danger developing.
The Clarets had golden opportunities to open the scoring, both Bryony Bancroft and Simone Keating were blocked by pacy Lancaster defender Charlotte Kingham, who pulled off some acrobatic slide tackles and blocking heroics.
The Clarets opened the scoring on 30 minutes when Charlotte Coates delivered an in-swinging corner which was met by the head of Grace Byrne.
In the second period, Lancaster counter attacked with added strength and speed, but captain Lora Speak and fellow centre half Jodie Banks were able to match the strikers.
Lancaster hit the bar with a 25-yard free kick, but the Clarets also hit the woodwork and saw further scoring chances thwarted as they won 1-0.
