Final defeat for district team
BURNLEY’S district cricket season came to an end with defeat in the Lancashire Area final.
Having been knocked out in the Greater Lancashire quarter-final, the team just fell short.
Having bowled well, a mini collapse in the middle order left the lads struggling, though the team can reflect on a good season.
With only three clubs to select from, the district is always up against the odds and once again they have fought above their weight.
Special thanks go to co-manager Steve Whittaker, to the Under 13s managers Paul Stansfield and Dave Lawson, who reached the quarter-finals, and the Under 15s managers Mark Thornton and Gordon Ridehalgh, who were group runners-up.
Great credit also goes to Padiham, Burnley and Lowerhouse, who have given the grounds and catering for free, and to the parents for their wonderful support.
Ribble Valley scored 126-7, with Sam Harrison taking 2-7.
Burnley were all out for 84, with Bryce Johnstone top-scoring with 24.
Tom Halstead made 16 and Ben Woodall 11.
