READ stayed within touching distance of Houldsworth Ribblesdale Senior League leaders Barnoldswick with a win over rivals Clitheroe.

The Whalley Road side made it three wins out of three as they eased to a convincing 158-run victory.

Pro Jordan Clark smashed a sensational unbeaten 144 off just 149 balls as Read set the visitors a total of 269 from their 45 overs.

Clitheroe could only manage 111-7 in reply with Read’s Elliot Lowes the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets. They are just two points behind Barnoldswick now.

Elsewhere, Padiham’s Steve Meehan was in fine form, taking six wickets as the Arbories side bowled out Whalley for 104. They then finished on 105-7, with Callum Clarke hitting 35, to win by three wickets.

In Division Two, Burnley Belvedere posted 147-9 on their way to a 70-run victory over Feniscowles 2nds while Padiham 2nds beat Whalley 2nds by 44 runs after hitting an impressive 195.

In the Lancashire League, Burnley and Lowerhouse’s home games to Ramsbottom and and Accrington respectively, both fell victim to the elements on Sunday.
