BURNLEY continued their recent good form with their third victory in a row on Saturday when they travelled to Bacup.

On a glorious sunny day, Burnley won the toss and batted first and piled up a massive 243-6 off their 50 overs.

This was mainly due to Qasim Ali who made a fine 86 off 97 balls with everyone batting round him, with Steve Brunt making 20, skipper Bharat Tripathi 15 and professional Adnan Rasool 18.

With 10 overs to go, the away side had slipped to 179-6, having just lost a cluster of wickets.

Then Steve Whittaker and Aidan Tate had an important 67-run partnership with Whittaker, smashing his highest Lancashire League score of 57 off 40 balls, which took the score to an imposing 243.

In reply, Bacup started well and were 74 before they lost the first wicket in the 19th over, but the run rate was going up.

Opener Nick Cronshaw (48) and then sub professional Jacob Pienaar (47) were the mainstay of the innings, but with Rasool bowling throughout the innings to finish with 6-79 off 24.4 overs, Tripathi chipped in with 4-76 off 17 on a pitch which was taking spin, and the home side finished 47 runs short despite some late hitting from the lower middle order.

In a quirk of the fixture list, Burnley entertain the same opponents Bacup at home on Sunday looking to continue their form.
