Burnley cricketers Samiya Rahman and Jessica Nixon have been selected for the County Under 13s girls squad for the 2011 season.
Samiya, from Burnley Cricket Club, and Jessica, from Lowerhouse, are the latest from the town to represent Lancashire, and will make their Red Rose debut against Durham on May 20th at Read.
Officials from the Cricket Development Group and both clubs paid tribute to the efforts that the girls have put in, especially in the last two years, having previously missed out on County Under 11 selection.
Meanwhile, Burnley’s junior section is holding an open day for anyone interested in playing cricket on Saturday, March 26th at Spirit of Sport, Burnley, from 9-15-10-30 a.m.
The club welcomes Under 9s, Under 11s and Girls, and from 10-15-11-30 a.m., the Under 13s.
The club looks forward to welcoming any youngsters to this free taster session.

Burnley’s junior section also hold their annual membership and welcome evening on Friday, April 15th from 6-30 p.m.
This social evening will be a chance for the juniors to meet the coaches and complete their membership and registration forms.
Junior outdoor practice nights will begin on Thursday, April 21st, weather permitting.
l LOWERHOUSE’S pre-season friendly with neighbours Padiham on Saturday, April 9th will take place at the Arbories.
The reverse fixture between the second teams will take place on the same day at Liverpool Road.
Other friendlies see Lowerhouse entertain Golborne on Sunday, April 10th - the same day Burnley seconds are at home to Read seconds, while Burnley travel to Fleetwood.
On Saturday, April 16th, Lowerhouse host Heaton, and the following day Burnley are at home to the Lancashire Federation.
Lowerhouse’s game at Farnworth SC has been cancelled, with the thirds’ game with Belvedere thirds moved from Sunday, April 3rd at Lowerhouse to Belvedere on April 16th.
