BURNLEY Athletics Club is to commence the countdown to the Olympics with a special meeting 100 days from the greatest show on earth.
The club will host a “Try Athletics” event at Barden Track a week on Monday on April 16th after UK Athletics sanctioned the meeting, as London 2012 looms large on the horizon.
The event will run from 4-8 p.m., and Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Christopher Dean of 2BR will be present on the day to help promote and raise awareness of the importance of athletics.
Meanwhile, recently several Burnley AC athletes were in action at their first meeting of the year in Blackpool.
Jay Bowman, James Dean and Brandon Holmes competed in the Under 11s’ Long Jump, 80m sprint and 600m run.
Katie Lister and Lydia Stanfield competed in the Under 13s’ Long Jump, Shot Putt and 80m sprint.
Callum Holmes competed in the Under 15s’ 800m run, and Emma Scott competed in the 800m race.
Although it turned out to be a very long day, everyone enjoyed themselves and now have times and distances set, and have something to work at and improve over the rest of the season.
