The Lancashire Ladies’ Bowling Association team event is hosted by Padiham Bowling Club tomorrow, from 10 a.m.

Teams from Bolton, Burnley, Bury, Chorley, Manchester, Preston, Rochdale and Southport will take part in a round-robin style competition, with an eventual final between the two top-scoring teams.

Last year’s event took place in Preston and Burnley were the winning team, so the locals hope to successfully defend their title.

President of the Lancashire Ladies’ Bowling Association for 2014 is local bowler Mavis Hancock, who has the privilege of choosing the charity supported at the event, and she explained her choice: “It didn’t take me long to choose the charity I wanted to support as my younger brother Michael Lister, who lives in Padiham, had a successful heart transplant at Wythenshawe Hospital.

“Their charity is called ‘New Start’, so proceeds from the day will help boost their funds.

“We will have a gazebo supplied by Wythenshawe Hospital, along with literature informing people about the work the charity does.

“We will also have a raffle and run a tombola stall, and many local businesses have already supported by supplying raffle prizes.

These include Tesco in Padiham, Boundary Mill at Colne, Winfields at Haslingden, Crow Wood Leisure, Lancashire County Cricket, Josh Conlan’s Butchers, Bev Richards Florist, Jo Lo’s Hairdressers and Oval World, along with prizes from individuals and organisations.”

Food and hot drinks will be available to purchase all day, and everyone is welcome to come along and watch the bowling and enjoy a bite to eat, along with trying their hand at the tombola stall or hoping to win one of the great raffle prizes.

There is an entry fee for each team, from which the prize money will be raised, and all other monies raised will go to the charity.
