Burnley teen smashes Lancs running record

Fourteen-year-old Leon Stubbs has shown a clean pair of heels to the rest of Lancashire in recent weeks.

The Burnley Athletic Club member has become the 300m schools and county champion and not only did he win the Lancashire schools event, he smashed the championship record in the process with a heat time of 38.5 seconds – a time which could see him competing at the English Schools Championships next month.

A spokesman for Burnley Athletic Club said: “Leon has been a member of the Burnley Athletic Club for a number of years and his progress has been exceptional due to his talent, dedication and the hard work of the coaches at the club.”

Burnley AC are also hosting an Under 11s open meeting at their track on Sunday, July 6th.

The event is open to youngsters between the ages 7 and 10 as of August 31st 2014.

Burnley Athletic Club caters for all ages and abilities over the age of eights years old, male and female.

The club Under 11s group, which is growing all the time, trains between 6-30 and 7-30pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

All other age groups 11 and over start at 6-30pm and finish at 8pm on the same nights.

The next team meeting is the Mid Lancs League meeting and takes place Saturday, June 28th at Litherland. Open to all members U13s and over.
