YEAR 10 students Ryan Jacques and Michael Smith have recently been selected as Hameldon’s Young Ambassadors, and will play a huge role in developing the Olympic spirit within the college and it’s community.

Both will work closely with the PE Department in a number of projects including the design of an Olympic Noticeboard, an Olympic Torch Relay between the family primary schools and the organisation of the annual Olympic Day.

Michael and Ryan, together with Brad Thorpe, also participate in a weekly football practice with Cherry Fold pupils in the sports hall, where their roles include officiating small sided games, coaching basic football techniques and leading on warm ups.

As part of their training, both attended a training session at the Spirit of Sport Centre, in which they listened to an inspirational presentation by Burnley’s Olympic and Commonwealth gymnast Craig Heap.

At the end of the session Michael and Ryan were presented with a t-shirt provided by Adidas and Youth Sport Trust.
