Both Burnley and Lowerhouse won in the Fosters Lancashire League on Saturday to maintain their challenge.

Burnley are eight points clear at the top after an eight-wicket win at Rawtenstall, where professional Chris Holt hit 97 off 108 balls, including 15 fours and a six.

Rawtenstall had totalled 192-8, with Holt taking 4-48.

Young Tom Lawson sent back Joe McCluskie without a run on the board, but Chris Cook-Martin (76) and Sam Kershaw (51) shared 108 for the second wicket.

Home pro Brett Pelser added 24 and Matt Kershaw 21 for the hosts.

In reply, Holt had stands of 69 with Vishal Tripathi (20) and 101 with David Brown (43 not out), with Jon Clare unbeaten on 19 as Burnley cruised to victory with more than 13 overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Lowerhouse climbed to joint third place after a 140- run win over Bacup at Liverpool Road.

Lowerhouse totalled 248-9, before dismissing struggliung Bacup for just 108.

The West Enders won the toss and batted, with Jonny Whitehead putting on 84 for the first wicket with Fergus Bailey (31).

Whitehead went on to top-score with 56, with professional Cobus Pienaar hitting 29, and further contributions from stand-in captain Matt Walker (39), Paddy Martin (29) and Lewis Marsden (20).

Bacup paid man Haseeb Azam returned 7-67.

Bacup’s reply lasted only 30.2 overs. Visiting captain Matt Thompson made 29 and John Syers 23 as Joe Halstead took 2-17, Paddy Martin 2-13, Pienaar 2-9 and Declan Bailey 2-7.

On Sunday, Lowerhouse are at Accrington, while Burnley host Church.

On Friday night, both Burnley and Lowerhouse earned a place in the Twenty20 semi-finals.

Lowerhouse won by nine wickets against Colne, who made 77-9. Joe Halstead took 2-12 and Matt Walker 2-17.

In reply, Pienaar hit 29, Jonny Whitehead an unbeaten 20 and Walker 18 not out to see the West Enders home in five overs.

Burnley beat Bacup by seven wickets after restricting their opponents to 93-9, as Jhangir Liaqat took 3-19, including a hat-trick.

David Brown hit 39 before Chris Burton (25) and Steve Brunt (22) saw Burnley home.

Burnley are at Enfield on Friday night, as Lowerhouse host Rawtenstall.
